Selling Clothes?

I've had one person tell me that selling clothes on ebay is worthless.  Then I had another person tell me I should sell all the clothes I've shrunk out of.  I went through my closet last night and I've got about 30 pieces of clothing, tops/blouses and pants, that are in really nice condition....things I wore to work.  Has anyone else out there tried to sell clothes on ebay?  Any opinions on whether I should or shouldn't?  I was thinking if I could get an average of $10 per item, that would be better than giving them away for free to Goodwill (I sent 3 garbage bags full to Goodwill just a month ago and now I'm feeling kind of sick, lol).  I'm curious how many people try to return them due to not fitting right, or whatever.  I have a "returns not accepted" policy on everything I've sold so far.  I'd want to do the same with clothing....I really don't want to fool with returns at all.  So what do you think?  Is it worth it?  Thanks for any tips!
(And my weight is the same as it was a couple of days ago....holding at 238).

  1. I would say go for it. A few summers ago I sold a few blouses/jeans on ebay and most of them sold. I think the hardest part of selling on ebay is uploading all the dang pictures.

And thanks for stopping by my blog, your words of encouragement really mean a lot :) ((hugs)) your way...

  2. Try it! What have you got to lose? I d do no returns, and measure everything, they will want chest. waist, arm to sleeve, etc, not just the size. Plus size clothing might do great in LOTS sell pants together, etc. Cram them all in a Flat Rate box and call it good! If things sell for 12-14 each you should clear 10$ profit! If nothing goes a little time lost but whatever...
I am selling some clothes now, a few designer items, and was considering the same thing..the dresses are doing well. Good luck!

  3. I bought some clothes off of Craigslist and I would definitely recommend this route. Craigslist is a little creepy sometimes, but it turned out great for me. A lady had lost a lot of weight and was selling her clothes. We agreed on $3 per piece and I was able to sort out what I would wear/what was cute and what I did not want. If it didn't fit exactly right -- Oh well, it was $3 and I could put it in a pile I would sell on Craigslist. Over a couple times meeting I bought 20 some pieces of clothing. It might be less profit, but at least you would not have to deal with shipping.

  4. Re Craigslist, meet in a public place, and bring Dwayne. Like even a place that would have security cams. Do not do this at home and allow them to try your clothes on. Cash only of course.

  5. I was blog hopping and came across your blog and thought I would leave my 2 cents. I started selling on ebay 2 years ago and have had GREAT success. When I started I sold just women's clothing (and still do) and did them all at auctions. I've since upgraded to a store and business has continued to grow. I've found that women's bigger sizes are hard to come by and do very well (especially name brands). I definitely say go for it. Here is my store so you can get an idea of what I sell.

  6. Avoid eBay and have a yard sale, I sell my clothes ther and you can also sell other stuff in the house you don't need. Craigslist is also good but then you need to met up with people etc.

  7. I would say if you have big name brands sell those by themselves and sell off brands in lots. Make sure you take great pics, include lots of details in your listings of things your buyers going to want to know. Check completed listings to see what your item has actually sold for to decide if its worth your time to list. Also, people really like the buy it now option. Good luck to you.

  8. Don't knock Goodwill! Think tax write-off. You might not get your cash upfront but it will make a difference come tax time. Why not split the difference? Sell some at yard sale and take some to Goodwill. Just a thought...

  9. Craigslist has equal amounts of treasure and worthless junk. The best way to stand out is by taking lots of pics. Leave nothing to the imagination.

  10. That's one of the things that sucks about losing weight. Your old cloths don't fit you. Maybe give them to family?
